Fluechem Solve Hosing Issue for Competitor to Ensure their Customer Stays Compliant

The team at Fluechem was able to demonstrate our versatility, adaptability and teamwork when a customer found themselves in a tricky situation but it allowed us to show that no matter what needs to be done, we’ll get the job done.

In mid-2020 Fluechem were contacted by a vessel who was being supplied Caustic Soda 50% by a competitor or ours. However, during the supply of the chemicals the competitor ran out of the required length of hosing to get the solution from portside to ship. This posed a huge problem for the ship and, realising the seriousness of the situation, we were more than happy to jump into action to help overcome this potentially expensive and damaging scenario.

The first action taken was to re-assure the ship owners that we could sort the issue. We then sent our bunkering team portside Esbjerg to discharge our competitor’s product across a distance of 150 meters using our own hosing. To ensure any further unwanted eventualities were avoided we actually supplied 350m meters of hosing and thus any further risk was mitigated.

This whole situation was a very rare occurrence but regardless of whether we were contracted to supply the Caustic, on this occasion we wanted to make sure the ship owner received their caustic enabling them to run HFO and that our competitor was still able to offload the product in the end.
